Business Leadership South Africa has joined the chorus for the lifting of the bans on the sale of alcohol and cigarettes. The bans were put in place to help minimise the burden on health facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Managing Director at Business Against Crime and Director of Policy and Legislation at BLSA, Tebele Luthuli says despite its honest purpose, the unintended consequences of this ban have caused harm that far outweighs whatever positive outcomes it hoped to achieve.
