From 28 September till Friday, 2 October, BLSA CEO Busisiwe Mavuso participated in the Reality Check segment on SAFM’s National Briefing with Cathy Mohlahlana. The segment provides South African leaders with an opportunity to share their vision for building a stronger and more prosperous country.

Her theme for the week was “From Reforms to Results: Building Confidence, Accountability and Inclusive Growth in South Africa.” Throughout the week, she explored a series of subthemes aligned to this overarching topic. She reflected on the progress of economic reforms, the value of the business-government partnership, emerging signs of economic growth, investor confidence in South Africa, and the importance of the 2026 local government elections in shaping the country’s future.

The week kicked off with Ms Mavuso unpacking what economic reforms are, why they matter, and how they are helping to create the conditions for sustainable growth in South Africa, the value of the business-government partnership, emerging signs of economic growth, investor confidence in South Africa, and the importance of the 2026 local government elections in shaping the country’s future

On Tuesday, Ms Mavuso discussed Phase 3 of the Business-Government partnership and its focus on growth. I look forward to engaging on how this partnership aims to grow the economy by 3% and create one million jobs by 2030.

On Wednesday, Ms Mavuso explored some of the green shoots emerging in our economy, including rising investment, stronger fiscal performance, and improving business confidence, and what these developments mean for South Africa’s growth prospects.

On Thursday the focus was on the critical role of building investor confidence and strengthening South Africa’s competitiveness. Sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved without investment. Creating an environment that attracts and retains investment is essential to expanding businesses, creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and driving long-term prosperity for all South Africans.

On Friday, in the final segment of the series, Ms Mavuso discussed the 2026 local government elections, the importance of service delivery, and why these issues matter to business and South Africa’s broader growth prospects.
