JOHANNESBURG – Business Leadership South Africa says it will not stand by and watch state capture.
The State of Capture report reveals alleged improper and unethical conduct by politicians and businesses.
Business Leadership SA CEO Bonang Mohale says business is heavily invested in this country and that corruption is robbing South Africa of desperately needed job creation.
Mohale says government’s policies have been poorly executed as a result of bad leadership.
He says the downgrading of the South African economy could have been avoided.
Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela also recently expressed her disappointment in government’s handling of state capture.
Madonsela recommended before her exit that a commission of inquiry into state capture be instituted, headed by a judge chosen by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
President Jacob Zuma recently committed himself to instituting a commission of inquiry into state capture. However, he also launched a legal challenge against the report’s recommendations, saying that they interfere with his executive powers.
Madonsela says she thought the government would react quicker to the report.
“Again we thought those in charge of ensuring our state functions for all would say ‘thank you’ for the evidence and immediately institute a commission of inquiry.”
Meanwhile, in an effort to alleviate poverty and unemployment, Business Leadership SA has pledged to invest in communities.
