Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) is saddened by the passing of the business icon, Dr Richard Maponya, who passed away on the morning of the 6th January 2020 after a short illness.
Dr Maponya was a giant, a torch bearer, icon, an example of black excellence and a symbol of what is possible. He paved the way for transformation in South Africa and we will remember him for his contribution to the development of black business and his support for black entrepreneurs.
Dr Maponya’s life is a testament to perseverance, resilience and the power of a vision to see black business grow. “Ntate Maponya was a walking monument of the township economy and father of black retail business” Busi Mavuso said. He is an example for all as he conducted business ethically. His legacy will be remembered by many. What a magnificent race he ran.
BLSA conveys its deepest and heartfelt condolences to Dr Maponya’s family during this difficult time. May they be strengthened and may all our hearts find solace in the albums of memories we have of him and with him over the years. Rest in peace Ntate Maponya.
