Mr Bongani Nqwababa is an Executive Director on the Sasol Limited Board, where he is also a member of the Risk and Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Committee as well as the Capital Investment Committee. He was appointed Joint President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sasol Limited on 1 July 2016 together with Mr Stephen Cornell.
He became a non-executive director of the BLSA board from 1 July 2019.
Prior to his appointment as President and Joint CEO, he was Executive Director and Group Chief Financial Officer of Sasol Limited responsible for Financial Control, Corporate Finance, Business Development, Portfolio Management, Investor Relations and Information Management. He was appointed to the Group Executive Committee on 1 March 2015.
Before joining Sasol, Bongani was Finance Director at Anglo American Platinum Limited. He is also a previous Finance Director of Eskom Holdings and Chief Financial Officer of Shell Southern Africa. He was previously a non-executive director of Old Mutual plc and Chairman of the South African Revenue Services Audit Committee. He has worked in The Netherlands and United Kingdom in his previous roles.
He served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Sasol Limited Board from December 2013 until September 2014. He was appointed as a Commissioner on Carbon Tax and Competitiveness by the World Bank in January 2019, with the objective of presenting report to the United Nations in September 2019.
Bongani is a Fellow Chartered Accountant FCA (Z), and obtained a Bachelor of Accounting Honours degree from the University of Zimbabwe. He also obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with merit from the Universities of Manchester and Wales, Bangor, United Kingdom.
